Ofsted praises rapid development

Ofsted inspectors found significant improvements during their latest inspection of Epping Forest College. The report highlights the many areas of significant college progression since the previous inspection.

Among the improvements highlighted are leadership and management; inspectors praised the work of the interim principal, Jeannie Wright, the senior leadership team and the governing body. Their report commends “the clarity of the college’s strategic direction” during a period of rapid development, which has seen standards improve and high staff morale.

Also praised in the report are the college’s commitment to equality and diversity, and the “harmonious environment” where students “demonstrate mutual respect and make a significant contribution to the relaxed, yet industrious, atmosphere.” Inspectors found an environment in which learners are “encouraged to fulfill their potential” and the college’s systems for collaborating with education partners and community groups are good; students’ achievement rates are showing improvement.

Commenting on the report, interim principal Jeannie Wright says: “Staff have a great deal to be proud of. They have worked extremely hard since the last inspection to drive through significant improvements”.

“We have taken the important first steps towards our goal of becoming an outstanding college. We now have independent evidence to challenge any doubters in the form of a very positive and well deserved inspection outcome. I would encourage everyone with a genuine interest in the future of Epping Forest College to read the inspection report cover to cover and celebrate with us the positive picture it paints of a College that has turned around and is focused on raising standards”.

“We are already working on the inspectors’ recommendations of what we need to do to secure further improvement. Our staff are committed to further progress.”
